Netherlands - PhD Scholarship for Empathy Development and Bullying Behaviour at University Nijmegen

Overview

A PhD position is available at the Behavioural Science Institute for the project `The association between empathy development and bullying behaviour in children and early adolescents`. This project is funded by a NWO grant within the Youth and Family programme. As a PhD student in this project you will develop computer-aided measurement instruments and organize and conduct field data collection at primary schools, analyse the resulting data, and report on them at national and international scientific fora. This project has both scientific and societal aims.

Requirements

You are an enthusiastic and ambitious person. You have a recent Master`s degree in psychology or a comparable qualification. You are clearly interested in social cognitive development. You enjoy participating in international scientific communities and have the ambition to pursue an academic career.

You are well organized and conscientious, and have ample experience with the planning and execution of complex logistics operations, such as data collection at schools. You speak Dutch well enough to organize and conduct such a data collection. You are able to communicate competently in English and have good writing skills in English (an English academic writing test will be part of the selection procedure). You have good methodological abilities and ample experience, for example, in network data analyses or structural equation modelling.

Organization

With its six Bachelor`s and seven Master`s programmes, three Research Master`s programmes, three educational institutes with a total of 4,500 students, three research institutes and the Academic Centre for Social Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the largest faculties at Radboud University Nijmegen. The faculty currently employs about 650 employees. The faculty`s ambition is to become one of the top social science institutes in Europe, providing high-quality research programmes and study programmes that rank among the best in the Netherlands.

The project will be part of the Social Development research programme of the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Radboud University Nijmegen. The BSI is a research institute where highly qualified researchers conduct quantitative studies on the fundamental principles and processes that govern human behaviour. Conditions of employment
Employment: 1,0 fte
Maximum salary per month, based on a fulltime employment: € 2,612 gross/month
Starting salary is €2,042 per month; the salary will increase to € 2,612 per month in the fourth year.

Duration of the contract: 4 years.

Additional conditions of employment
You will be appointed as a PhD student for a period of four years. Your performance will be evaluated after 18 months. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years.
