(UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers’ Fellowship Programme) 2011 Cycle

The UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowships Programme (UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers’ Fellowship Programme) funded under the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the capacity-building of Human Resources will aim, in particular, to impact on capacity-building and research activities in the following areas:

   1. Environment (with particular attention to Water Sciences);
   2. Intercultural Dialogue;
   3. Information and Communication Technologies; and
   4. Peaceful conflict resolution. No other research topics will be considered.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants, a maximum of TWO from each applying National Commission, must meet the following general criteria:

   1. Candidates under this Programme must be post-graduate researchers, already holding either an M.A. or M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and wishing to pursue research work abroad (preferably in their own region) with a view to enhancing knowledge in one of the four specific fields mentioned in paragraph 0.1 below. Thus, those who are in the process of completing their Master’s degree must have completed it PRIOR to taking up their Fellowship.
   2. Candidates must be persons of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make significant contributions to their country on return.
   3. Candidates must be no more than 40 years of age. Thus, applicants born before 1 January 1971 will not be considered under the Programme.
   4. The selected Fellow must carry out the research under the auspices of an academic supervisor in a host institution. Confirmation of acceptance from the academic supervisor is imperative.
   5. Priority attention will be given to:
          * Women candidatures
          * Candidates from least developed countries (LDCs)
          * Palestinian researchers
   6. Candidates must be proficient in reading and writing the language of instruction in the proposed country of study/research.
   7. Applicants must be in good health (both physically and mentally).

How to Apply

All applications must be submitted with the required documentation on the UNESCO Fellowship Application Form. Each Member State may nominate candidates a maximum of two (2). It is the National Commission’s responsibility to select the two candidates whose applications it wishes to submit to UNESCO. Application Deadline: 7 Jan 2011 (annual)

PARC Post-Doctoral Research Positions
PARC (PDE and Functional Analysis Research Center ) at the Department of Mathematics Seoul National University is offering one-year post-doctoral position to a limited number of researchers in PDE and Functional Analysis. Candidates should hold a Ph.D degree or complete Ph.D programs no later than by February 2011.

Salary will be given according to PARC guidelines. The successful applicants are required to carry out all the duties imposed by PARC.

UK : Fully-Funded International Research Scholarships at the University of Leeds

Fully-Funded International Research Scholarships (FIRS) Session 2011-2012

Fully funded University International Research Scholarships are available for high quality international students who will be commencing PhD research study in Session 2011-12 for study in any Faculty at the University of Leeds.

Eligible Criteria
Please read this information carefully, as your application form will be automatically rejected if you do not meet ALL of the eligibility criteria listed below:

    * Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number (Student ID Number) to be eligible for a Fully-Funded International Research Scholarship.     * These awards are only available to applicants who would be liable to pay academic fees at the full international fee rate;
    * Applicants must normally hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK First Class Honours degree and should be considered to be the `best of the best` (eg, applicants should be demonstrably in the top 20% of their cohort). Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study;
    * Applicants whose first language is not English must have already met the University`s English Language requirements . Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum;
    * These awards are not open to individuals who have already been awarded a Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification;
    * Applicants must not hold another Scholarship

Regulations
These include the following (full information on the regulations will be sent to all successful applicants):

    * Awards must be taken up on 1 October 2011;
    * The awards are available for new research students undertaking full-time study leading to the degree of PhD. Students who are already registered for PhD research study are excluded from this competition;
    * The award will cover full international fees and a maintenance grant of £13,895 per annum. There are no additional allowances for travel or research costs;
    * The award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress;
    * Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.

Application Procedure & Result
Applications are logged by the Postgraduate Scholarships Office and passed on to the relevant Schools for initial consideration. Each School selects a shortlist of applicants who they wish to recommend for the award. The Group on Scholarships, Studentships and Prizes then meets to consider the shortlists and select the successful applicants. Applicants can expect to be notified of the outcome of their application by the end of March 2011. The University will publish the names of the successful applicants within the University and externally on the University website.

Australia - APRICOT Fellowship Program for Developing Countries

Overview
Since 2000, the APRICOT Fellowship Program has provided opportunities to personnel from developing countries to participate in APRICOT. The program provides basic financial assistance to selected applicants, who fulfill eligibility criteria and are then selected by the Fellowship Committee.

The Fellowship Award which is granted to successful applicants (Fellows) covers a proportion of conference registration, travel, and living expenses associated with attending APRICOT.

Who can apply?
The APRICOT Fellowship Program targets individuals from developing countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in a professional capacity, in any of the following roles:

    * Engineers (network builders)
    * Decision makers in government, educational, non-government and private sectors
    * Educators and trainers

Award Package
APRICOT will provide Fellows with the following assistance to attend the APRICOT 2011:

    * Workshop, Tutorial, and Conference Fees
    * Up to 80 per cent of return air fare, to a maximum of USD 1,000
    * Accommodation in designated hotel, on a twin-share basis
    * Ground transportation expenses

Terms & Conditions

   1. Fellows are required to travel on the cheapest available economy class ticket. Applicants must provide a reliable quotation for air travel at the time of application, and up to 80% of that amount will be funded (to a maximum of USD 1000).
   2. Fellows are expected to stay at the designated APRICOT Fellowship Hotel. Fellows may check in one day before the event starts and check out one day after the event ends.
   3. Fellows accept responsibility for all liabilities, and for costs associated with medical and travel insurance.
   4. Fellows are required to attend and participate in all sessions of the event, and funding may be withheld in case of absence from any part of the event.

Entry Visas
Please note that a valid passport or an appropriate travel document is required to enter the host country. Participants from certain countries may also require a visa.

Participants are responsible for arranging their visas, and should consult the APRICOT website for information on entry/immigration requirements.

Criteria for Selection
The APRICOT 2011 Fellowship Committee will select the fellows according to the following criteria:

    * Membership of the target audience listed above
    * Residency in a developing country
    * Demonstrated ability to utilize the experiences gained from APRICOT
    * Willingness to return to APRICOT as a presenter or trainer in the future

Note: Candidates who have been prior recipients of a fellowship within the last four years from APRICOT or a related conference such as APAN, APNIC or SANOG will not ordinarily be considered for fellowship.

Applicants from any part of the world will be considered, however it is expected that the majority of fellows selected will be from the Asia Pacific region.
